Moving Diaries: Episode 2

One of the biggest decisions in any room makeover is paint.

It seems simple enough at first, just pick a color and start painting, but anyone who has gone through the process knows there’s a lot more to it than that. As I continue working on the sunroom, I know the paint color would set the tone for everything else. Since my vision for this space has always been light, neutral, and calming, I wanted a color that would enhance the natural light while creating a warm and inviting backdrop. The goal wasn't to make the room feel stark or overly bright, but rather soft, timeless, and effortless.

I spent time looking at countless paint samples, comparing undertones, and seeing how different shades changed throughout the day. It's amazing how a color can look completely different depending on the lighting. Some whites felt too cool, some felt too yellow, and others just didn't create the feeling I was hoping for.

After plenty of samples, second-guessing, and living with the options for a bit, I finally landed on the perfect choice: White Dove.

Throughout the process, I kept coming back to the overall vision for the room. I recently ordered a few furniture pieces from Pottery Barn that perfectly aligns with the direction I'm taking the space: light, neutral, and full of texture. Knowing those pieces would eventually be layered into the room helped guide my decision and made me think beyond what the walls would look like today. I wanted a paint color that would complement the furniture, allow natural materials to shine, and create a cohesive foundation for everything to come.

Now that the paint has been selected, it feels like the sunroom is taking its first real step toward becoming the space I've imagined. There are still plenty of details to come, but having this foundation in place makes everything else feel a little more exciting.

One decision down, a hundred more to go, but this one feels exactly right.
