Moving Diaries: Episode 1
There’s something both exciting and intimidating about starting over.
After moving into a new home, I’ve found myself standing in rooms filled with possibility, but also facing what feels like an endless list of decisions. What color should the walls be? What pieces should stay? What needs to be replaced? Where do I even begin? While I’m incredibly grateful for this new chapter, I think it’s important to be honest about the reality of it, too. Building a home from scratch can feel overwhelming.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been reminding myself that every finished home starts as an empty space. The beautiful rooms we see online didn’t come together overnight. They were built one decision at a time, one project at a time, and one room at a time. That perspective has helped me give myself a little more grace as I navigate this season. Out of all the spaces in the house, the sunroom is where I’ve decided to begin. It was one of the first rooms where I could immediately envision the finished result. While so much of the house still feels uncertain, this room feels clear. I know I want it to be neutral, calming, and timeless; a place that feels warm and inviting without being overly complicated.
My vision for the space is centered around natural textures, soft tones, comfortable seating, and thoughtful layers that make the room feel collected rather than decorated. I want it to be a place where I can enjoy slow mornings, spend time with family and friends, and simply take a moment to breathe amidst the busyness of everyday life.
There’s still a long way to go, and I’m sure there will be changes along the way. Some ideas will work, others won’t, and I’m learning to be okay with that. This process isn’t about creating perfection; it’s about creating a home that feels authentic to us.
As I begin transforming this sunroom, I’m excited to share every step of the journey: the inspiration, the challenges, the decisions, and the progress. If you’re in a season of starting over, whether it’s a new home, a new chapter, or simply a fresh start, I hope this serves as a reminder that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Sometimes the best thing you can do is choose one place to begin and trust the process from there.
