Moving Diaries: Episode 6- The Perfect Window Treatments

Welcome back to Moving Diaries, episode 6! We’re making more progress on our home renovationS, and this time we’re tackling a detail that might seem small but makes such a big difference: window treatments for our tiny bathroom. If you’ve been following along, last episode was all about demoing this little bathroom, testing what felt like a million paint colors, and finally starting to bring the vision to life. Now, we’re focusing on making this space just as functional as it is beautiful!

This bathroom is one of the most-used spaces in our home because it’s right off the main level. It’s where our family gets ready throughout the day, and it’s also the bathroom our guests use when we’re hosting. The only issue? There’s a tiny 17-inch window that looks directly out onto our outdoor entertaining space. Privacy was definitely a must, but I didn’t want to block out what little natural light this bathroom gets. Finding the right window covering for such a small window was a little trickier than I expected, but I finally found the perfect solution at The Home Depot!

I found these custom-cut cordless light-filtering cellular shades from the Home Decorators Collection at The Home Depot, and they checked all the boxes. I wanted something simple, functional, and neutral that would fit seamlessly into the bathroom without making the already-small space feel darker or more closed in. These shades give us the privacy we need while still allowing that soft, natural light to filter through, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The best part is how easy the ordering process was. I measured our little 17-inch window, entered the dimensions online, and had a shade custom-cut to fit our exact measurements. If you’ve ever tried shopping for window treatments for an unusually small window, you know how difficult it can be to find something that actually fits. Having a shade made to size made the whole process so much easier!

Another thing I loved about this project was how affordable it was. Our custom-cut cellular shade came in at under $40, and it was delivered right to our door in just a couple of days. The DIY installation was quick and straightforward, making this one of those home updates that didn’t require a huge budget or an entire weekend to complete.

I’m always looking for those little finishing touches that make a home feel more put together, and this was such a good reminder that even the smallest changes can have a big impact. We finally have the privacy we wanted without sacrificing the natural light, and the bathroom feels so much more functional now. We still have a few finishing touches left to complete, but it’s finally ready to use, and I’m so happy with how everything is coming together!

If you’re working on a bathroom refresh, have a small window that’s difficult to cover, or simply want a more affordable window treatment solution, I’d definitely look into custom-cut light-filtering shades. This was such an easy way to solve a practical problem while keeping the overall look of the space clean and simple.
