Moving Diaries: Episode 5 - Working on the Half Bath

Welcome back to another episode of Moving Diaries! There is so much happening with the new house, and this part of the process is all about figuring out the design details that will really bring each space to life. Moving into a new home is exciting, but getting to make it your own through renovations, paint colors, wallpaper, and all those little finishing touches is where the fun really begins. We are focusing our attention to the half bathroom and starting to bring the vision for this space together!

The space is still very much a work in progress, with sections of the wall opened up to reveal the framing behind them. Seeing a room at this stage is such a good reminder of how much goes into transforming a space into something that feels fresh, intentional, and your style. The half bathroom currently has a classic pedestal sink, a window that brings in natural light, and neutral tile flooring, giving us a glimpse of the room’s starting point before all the design updates come together.

I love seeing the planning process behind a renovation, especially when it comes to making decisions about fixtures, finishes, and wallpaper. I created a mockup for the bathroom, giving a better idea of how the finished space could look once everything is installed. It’s these little previews that help bring the overall vision together before the renovation is complete!

One detail that is really going to stand out in this space is floral wallpaper. The delicate botanical pattern features soft, muted colors and leafy details that feel timeless without being too traditional. It adds a little personality to the design while still keeping that understated, collected look that works so beautifully in a home.

Wallpaper can completely change the feel of a bathroom, especially in a smaller space where a thoughtful pattern can make a big impact. Pairing a floral print with classic fixtures and a neutral color palette is a beautiful way to create a room that feels charming, warm, and full of character.

Along with the wallpaper, I was having a hard time deciding on a paint color that complimented the wallpaper. Several paint colors are tested directly on the wall, making it possible to compare different neutral shades in the room’s natural light. Instead of committing to a color right away, testing samples on the wall is a great way to see how each shade looks next to the existing trim, windows, and other finishes.
